A seed phrase (also known as a recovery phrase, mnemonic phrase, or backup phrase) is a list of 12 or 24 words that stores all the information needed to recover a cryptocurrency wallet. It is generated when you first create a wallet and serves as the master key to all your funds.
How It Works
The seed phrase is derived from a standard list of 2,048 words (BIP-39 standard). From this phrase, your wallet deterministically generates all private keys, public keys, and addresses. The same seed phrase will always produce the same set of keys.
Security Rules
Never share your seed phrase with anyone. No legitimate service will ever ask for it.
Never store it digitally — not in photos, notes apps, emails, or cloud storage.
Write it down on paper (or engrave on metal for fire/water resistance) and store in a secure location.
Consider splitting it across multiple secure locations for added protection.
If Someone Has Your Seed Phrase
They have complete access to all funds in that wallet. Immediately transfer all assets to a new wallet with a new seed phrase.
